1.1 A big "hello" and welcome to all you parents, teachers and young people joining the world of Rockfig. Our Website, www.rockfig.com, and all the cool and stylish pages we maintain on social networking sites (let's call all that the "Website") is provided by ROCKFIG LIMITED ("Rockfig").
1.2 Rockfig is a "Data Controller" under the Data Protection Act 1998, which basically means that it is responsible for keeping your personal data safe. Rockfig is registered with the UK regulator and has registered number ZA031285.
1.3 This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Website, how we collect it and what we do with it.
1.4 Rockfig works really hard to comply with the requirements of the UK Data Protection Act 1998.
2.1 When you use our Website, you provide us with personal information (which includes your contact information, information about you and maybe a superb picture of you).
2.2 If you are less than 18 years old age, you must make sure that your parent or teacher is happy for you to register to use our Website.
2.3 You must look after your password. Please do not share your password with any of your friends. We will never ask you for your password.
2.4 If you post comments on the Website, those comments are public. You must make sure that they do not contain any personal information about you (including your contact details).
2.5 We may email you with updates and Rockfig related news, products, offers, surveys or promotions. We may provide your personal information to the police or other agencies if we are required to by law so please don't do anything illegal whilst using the Website!
2.6 Please be very careful when following links found on our Website. We do not have control of any links and they may not be suitable for you.
2.7 Please be safe when you use our Website. Please let us (and your parent or teacher) know if anyone you don't know contacts you or if you lose your password.
3.1 When users register on the Website, they provide certain information as follows:
(a) if you register as a parent, teacher or young person, you will be asked to complete a form which will require you to provide some or all of your name, address, email address and telephone number. A young person will also have the option (but no obligation) to provide certain other information relating to your educational history, skills and other educational preferences;
(b) if you pay for any chargeable Service on the Website (whether as a parent, teacher or young person), you will be required to provide a credit or debit card details to our secure payment provider. If you are a young person, you must get the consent of your parent before using their credit or debit card. Rockfig will not receive this information;
(c) when you contact us by email or telephone or through any contact form provided on the Website, we may ask you to provide some or all of the information set out above;
(d) we may collect, store and use information about your computer, mobile device or other item of hardware through which you access the Website and your visits to and use of the Website. This information might include your IP address, geographical location, browser type and version, Internet Service Provider, operating system, referral source/exit pages, length of visit, page views, Website navigation and searches you make);
(e) in order to improve your experience in using the Website, we may store information relating to your previous browsing habits; and
(f) if you access the Website through a social networking profile (e.g. Facebook, Twitter etc.), we may collect, store and use the details of that social networking profile and any information contained in it to fill in any forms you might wish to complete on the Website.
3.2 We may also ask you to complete surveys and give feedback that we use for research purposes, although you do not have to respond to them.
4.1 You can choose whether to make content public (i.e. viewable by everyone) or private (i.e. viewable only by you and Rockfig). The default position is that content added by you is private.
4.2 When you add any content to the Website, you grant Rockfig the right (called a non-exclusive licence) to communicate that content to anyone (where such content is labelled as being made available to the public) and use, display and transmit such content in any way Rockfig thinks is necessary to enable Rockfig to perform the Services.
4.3 Content which is made available to the public by you can be used by any other person without your permission. Please think very carefully before making any content public. In particular, please don't publish any contact details. Rockfig has no control over how other users use your content. By making content public, you recognise that Rockfig is not liable for any unlawful activity by other users in relation to their use of your content.
4.4 After you have deleted any Content we may retain it in our archives as required by our back-up systems for up to 6 months. It doesn't automatically disappear when you delete the Content!
5.1 We may use your information for the following purposes:
(a) to manage and administer the Website;
(b) to improve your browsing experience by personalising the Website;
(c) to enable you to use the Website;
(d) to send you newsletters and other relevant and targeted promotional communications;
(e) to deal with enquiries, complaints and feedback from you and our service providers;
(f) to provide third parties with statistical anonymised information about our users;
(g) to send you emails offering you to take part in a survey and/or give feedback; and
(h) to analyse and improve the services offered on the Website.
6.1 Sometimes we have to disclose information when we are asked to by the police or are required to by any law applicable to us. Other than on these occasions, we will not disclose your personal information to any third party.
6.2 If you are a young person under the age of 18 we will not disclose any information to your parent or teacher unless we think (in our sole judgment) that it is important or appropriate for your parent or teacher to receive the information.
6.3 We will not disclose your email address to any third party without your permission.
7.1 Cookies are tasty and we at Rockfig love a nice chocolate cookie on a rainy afternoon. There is another type of cookie which is less tasty but very useful. Electronic cookies are text files stored, either on a temporary or permanent basis on the hard drive of your computer. This type of cookies are used for authenticating, session tracking and maintaining specific information about the use and users of the Website.
7.2 The data collected by cookies is anonymous so we never know to whom a cookie relates. You can delete all cookies that are already on your computer's hard drive by searching for files with "cookie" in it and deleting them. In addition, if you want to stop cookies from being stored on your computer, you can edit your browser settings so that cookies are blocked. 7.3 In order to improve the Website and the services we offer you, we may use (temporary and permanent) cookies, authorized third parties cookies, web beacons and/or other technologies to collect information that does not personally identify you.
8.1 The information that we collect from users may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the European Economic Area ("EEA"). It may also be processed by staff operating outside the EEA who work for us. We will make sure that information is stored in countries with equivalent protections to the UK and by companies who are responsible and trustworthy. By submitting your personal information, you agree to this transfer, storing and processing.
8.2 All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers.
8.3 We at Rockfig take the security of your personal information very seriously. In particular we do our best to ensure that appropriate security measures are in place to protect your personal information. Unfortunately, the internet is not completely secure and there are all sorts of naughty people trying to access information. As a result, we cannot guarantee the security of your information and any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access.
9.2 Parents and teachers can use software and browser features to stop young people accessing certain types of content and Websites. These features are fantastic at filtering inappropriate content but do be aware that they are not perfect and may not catch all content.
10.1 The Data Protection Act 1998 gives you the right to ask us not to process your personal information for marketing purposes. We will usually inform you (before collecting your information) if we intend to use your information for such purposes or if we intend to disclose your information to any third party for such purposes. You can exercise your right to stop us sending you marketing emails by ticking a box on the forms we use to collect your information or clicking the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of any email we send you. 10.2 You may receive emails from us that inform you about actions you need to make (e.g. mend a broken link in a collection you have created), or we have made (e.g. changes to our legal notices). If you remain a registered user, you will continue to receive all of our system emails.
The Data Protection Act 1998 gives you the right to access information held about you (so that you know what we know). Access requests cost us money as we have to pay a Rockfigger to process them. We may therefore charge a fee of £10 to meet our costs in providing you with details of the information we hold about you.
12.1 Keeping your Rockfig world safe and secure is a tough task for us Rockfiggers. As a result we may need to change this policy every so often. If we decide to change the policy, we will post any changes on this page and, where appropriate, notify you by e-mail.
12.2 If we make any significant changes (particularly to the information we collect from young people under the age of 13 or to what we do with any such information) we will email parents and teachers to update them.
